Fox News Channel has once again cemented its position as the dominant force in cable news, outperforming not only its cable competitors but also the major broadcast networks NBC, CBS, and ABC in weekday primetime ratings. Meanwhile, CNN endured its lowest-rated week of the year, solidifying the growing gap between the two networks.
During the week of May 26-30, Fox News averaged an impressive 2.7 million viewers in weekday primetime, outshining NBC and CBS, which tied at 2.4 million viewers each, and ABC with 2.3 million. This marks a significant milestone for Fox News, as it consistently edges out competitors across both cable and broadcast platforms.
While excelling against the broadcast giants, Fox News also obliterated CNN in the ratings battle. CNN managed a mere 374,000 viewers during primetime, a stark contrast to Fox News’ 2.3 million.
In the advertiser-coveted demographic of adults aged 25-54, Fox News continued its dominance. The network delivered 240,000 viewers in primetime compared to CNN’s paltry 61,000. Across the total day, Fox News garnered 175,000 demo viewers, more than three times CNN’s 49,000.
CNN’s Struggles Intensify
The week marked CNN’s lowest-rated period of the year across both primetime and total day metrics. While CNN’s ratings decline has been a persistent issue, the sharp drop highlights a growing credibility crisis for the network as it struggles to resonate with viewers.
Fox News’ success can be attributed to its powerhouse primetime lineup featuring household names like Laura Ingraham, Jesse Watters, Sean Hannity, and Greg Gutfeld. The network aired the top 100 cable news telecasts for the week, a feat unmatched by any competitor.
Fox News also experienced its highest cable news share since inauguration week, a testament to its ability to attract and retain a loyal viewership base during key political and cultural moments.
As Fox News continues to dominate, its success underscores a shift in viewer preferences toward its unique brand of news coverage. Meanwhile, CNN faces mounting challenges to revitalize its programming and regain audience trust.
With primetime ratings proving to be a critical battleground, Fox News remains firmly in the lead, setting the stage for continued supremacy in the ever-competitive media landscape.
